Kazakhstan has urged the international community to renew diplomatic efforts and strengthen global cooperation, highlighting a growing trust deficit in international relations. This call was made by Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Expressing concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine, Tileuberdi emphasized the need for countries to resolve conflicts through diplomacy and negotiations. He condemned recent drone attacks on Kazakh oil export infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea, cautioning that such incidents could threaten international navigation, trade, and energy supplies.
On the Middle East, Tileuberdi reiterated Kazakhstan’s support for a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully with Israel. He also voiced support for international efforts to end the Gaza conflict and expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to aid in Gaza’s stabilization through civilian reconstruction and support for food security and digital government services. Additionally, Tileuberdi announced Kazakhstan’s intention to join the Abraham Accords.
Addressing the situation in Afghanistan, Tileuberdi underscored its importance to the security and development of Central Asia. He called for coordinated international engagement led by the United Nations, emphasizing that humanitarian aid should be paired with long-term strategies to tackle poverty, displacement, and economic reliance.
Tileuberdi also renewed Kazakhstan’s commitment to nuclear disarmament, offering to host high-level discussions among nuclear-armed states. He pointed to Kazakhstan’s history of closing the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and relinquishing its inherited nuclear arsenal as evidence of its dedication to this cause. Tileuberdi called on nuclear-armed nations to continue pursuing disarmament despite existing disagreements and highlighted the need for countries to respect international law and fulfill their commitments to restore global trust.
During the General Assembly, Tileuberdi held meetings with UN officials and foreign ministers to discuss topics such as UN reform, regional connectivity, energy, investment, and transport. These discussions also included the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and efforts to promote sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan. Kazakhstan also advocated for greater representation of Asia, Africa, Latin America, developing countries, and middle powers in the UN Security Council.
