Israeli President Isaac Herzog plans to recommend four passengers from a flydubai flight for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism following their brave actions during an onboard emergency. The passengers, Yaniv Hayoun, Dr. Shota Musayev, Zvika Manes, and Asaf Rajuan, played crucial roles in preventing a potential disaster on a flight from Dubai to Israel.
The incident involved a violent altercation in the cockpit, where one pilot attacked the other, resulting in injuries. Hayoun, Manes, and Rajuan intervened to restrain the aggressor, while Hayoun also aided in managing the aircraft controls. Dr. Musayev provided immediate medical assistance to the injured pilot. Their prompt actions were instrumental in ensuring the safety of everyone on board until the aircraft made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
President Herzog commended the passengers for their courage and quick response, which he noted were vital in mitigating the situation. He also expressed gratitude towards the aircraft’s Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, for his role during the emergency.
The President intends to present these passengers’ commendable actions to the advisory committee tasked with evaluating candidates for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and selflessness in civilian life.
