The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has launched a pilot program to test iLamp Israel’s autonomous solar lighting system at one of its facilities, marking the first deployment of this technology with the utility. This initiative aims to evaluate the lighting system’s performance, reliability, and its capability to function in the coastal conditions of the site. The findings from this pilot will be critical in determining the potential for broader application of the technology.
The iLamp system is innovative in its design, integrating several functionalities into a single lighting pole. Each unit features LED lighting, a 360-degree solar array, and battery storage, enabling it to generate and store electricity autonomously, independent of a traditional grid connection. Additionally, the system offers edge-computing capabilities, allowing data from equipment on the pole to be processed locally rather than relying solely on a centralized system.
Following the installation, the system will be evaluated based on specific technical and operational criteria established for the project. The IEC will review the results to determine if further deployment or expansion of the technology is warranted. This pilot has not yet been sanctioned for wider implementation, with any future rollouts contingent upon the assessment outcomes of this initial phase.
Anna Finkelstein, responsible for Business Development at iLamp Israel, emphasized that the pilot provides a valuable opportunity to gather performance data under challenging real-world conditions. Meanwhile, Albert Taubi, Director of iLamp Israel, noted that the IEC’s approval marks a significant step towards introducing autonomous solar infrastructure to large-scale operators. The immediate priority remains the successful installation and performance evaluation of the system.
