Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on Israel to halt its settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and take steps to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The remarks came during a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at a conference in Azerbaijan, as reported by China’s Foreign Ministry.
Wang emphasized that the Palestinian issue is a significant historical injustice and underscored the necessity for a political solution to the ongoing conflict. He advocated for the immediate improvement of humanitarian access to Gaza, highlighting the deteriorating conditions in the region. Wang also expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community to encourage dialogue and pursue a peaceful resolution.
China has long supported a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. Additionally, Beijing has been active in promoting Palestinian reconciliation and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions throughout the Middle East.
During the meeting, Herzog stated that the discussions encompassed both bilateral relations and the broader regional situation. He reiterated Israel’s commitment to peace while pointing out security concerns, particularly those related to Iran and its regional allies.
The situation in Gaza remains precarious despite a ceasefire that commenced in October 2025. Continued Israeli strikes, displacement, and humanitarian challenges persist, with progress towards further ceasefire agreements stalling due to mutual accusations of violations by Israel and Hamas.
This latest diplomatic exchange underscores ongoing international efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and revive stalled negotiations.
