Trump Puts Nuclear Threat Above Oil Chaos as Global Markets Spiral

by admin477351

President Donald Trump made a bold declaration Thursday, asserting that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is his top priority — far more important than the surging oil prices sending shockwaves through global markets. In a Truth Social post, Trump argued that as the world’s largest oil producer, the United States actually benefits financially when crude prices rise. His comments came as the International Energy Agency declared the current supply disruption the worst in recorded market history.

The scale of the energy crisis is staggering. Gulf producers have slashed output by roughly 10 million barrels per day — nearly 10% of global demand — while the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed. Brent crude climbed as much as 10% Thursday to briefly surpass $100 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate approached $96 before easing. The IEA coordinated the release of 400 million barrels from member nations’ emergency reserves.

On Truth Social, Trump described Iran as an “evil Empire” and vowed to stop it from acquiring nuclear weapons at any cost. He wrote that while higher oil prices generate revenue for America, his “far greater” concern is preventing Iran from destroying the Middle East and threatening global stability. He ended with a firm pledge to never allow this to happen.

Trump’s framing carries significant strategic weight. It signals to allies, adversaries, and markets that the conflict will continue until nuclear objectives are achieved — not merely until oil prices stabilize. This interpretation was reinforced when Trump told reporters Wednesday that American forces have struck Iran with historically unprecedented intensity and are not finished with the campaign.

The United States has committed 172 million barrels from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to supplement the IEA’s emergency action. Trump expressed no concern about Iranian retaliation on American soil. With no ceasefire on the horizon and oil markets in historic turmoil, Trump’s nuclear-first doctrine appears set to define the conflict’s trajectory for the foreseeable future.
