Zelenskyy: No Early Warning from Allies Before Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that Ukraine did not receive any early warnings from international partners prior to a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, which damaged civilian infrastructure. Zelenskyy said the strikes, which occurred on Monday, involved five missiles hitting civilian targets and emphasized the critical need for timely intelligence to protect lives.

Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of early warnings for ballistic missile launches, as they allow civilians and emergency services to prepare for incoming attacks. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha mentioned that intelligence cooperation with international partners is ongoing, suggesting that the lack of warning might be related to the specific type of Russian weapon employed in this instance.

This development arises amid concerns about the status of US intelligence support for Ukraine. Reports indicate that American officials had warned Ukrainian counterparts about the Trump administration’s consideration of suspending intelligence sharing. Despite this, Ukrainian officials continue to stress the importance of such collaboration, particularly in detecting ballistic missile launches and long-range bomber activity.

Tensions have also escalated over attacks on energy infrastructure. US President Donald Trump has urged Ukraine to cease its strikes on Russian oil refineries and announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding diesel supplies. Trump claimed that Russia and Ukraine had reached an energy ceasefire agreement, but Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had not received confirmation of such an arrangement.

Zelenskyy accused Russia of persisting with attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities despite the reported ceasefire. He noted that Ukraine had temporarily halted its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure following the US announcement, but emphasized that any cessation of attacks must be mutual and backed by credible assurances.

Meanwhile, Russian strikes continue to inflict civilian casualties and damage across Ukraine. Zelenskyy reported a separate attack on Kharkiv, where four people were killed and 41 injured after a residential building was destroyed. In response to the intensification of Russian attacks on cities and energy infrastructure ahead of winter, Ukraine has appealed to its partners for additional air-defense support, including Patriot missile systems.
